Most people make a laughingstock out of people who are suffering from hair loss. But this condition is far from being funny. Society dictates that being bald is an embarrassing condition and having a full head of hair depicts beauty. The problems brought about by hair loss could be more than physical. Some patients who are afflicted with this condition carry psychological scars.

The Society's Role

Countless men and women suffer from ridicules hurled at them by shallow-minded people. Constant humiliation decreases one's feelings of worthiness and self-esteem. Even a patient's self-confidence is affected. Most bald people now don't enjoy their lives all because of the unending taunting.

Hair loss, had it been handled by a mature society, should be nothing but mere condition that occurs to some people. The stigma attached to this condition should be non-existent. In fact, it is awful to think that modern man thinks of himself as educated and civilized when there are still silent sufferers who have to endure mockery. This public mindset could be attributed to the advertisements that constantly bombard countless TVs and other forms of media. Long hair, hair with curls, even short hair is stylish yet a bald man is unappealing and unfashionable.

People who lose their hair can never be blamed for the way they feel. It's the people around them and the so-called norms that should be put at fault.

Dealing with the Psychological Wounds

There are many ways to deal with this psychological battle caused by hair loss. Some men are now considered to be cool or trendy if they sport a shaven head. Some actors have, at least at one point in their careers, sported the bald look. One other good way to deal with hair loss is to face it and treat what's causing it. There are now many available products in the market that are meant to treat alopecia. These happinesslifetime.com hair care products could come in the form of shampoos, conditioners, hair growth solution, even oral medicines. If you're the more conservative type, there are also natural substances that have been proven to treat the loss of hair.

Being bald can be highly stressful but it is advisable to just let go of the stress as it can cause further hair loss. For patients who would want an immediate result, there are happinesslifetime.com hair transplants and restorations that can be performed. Studies have proven that those who have undergone such transplants have improved on the way they look at themselves after several sessions.

It's Your Decision

Sure, there are a lot of ways to face the pains of hair loss but it is always up to the patient to decide on how to deal with the problem on hand. Those who are confident in sporting the bald look might as well stick with it. While most of the other patients who would want to live as normal as possible with their crowning glories should look for the treatment that works best for them. It may take time to get back what was lost (if at all) but while in the process of treating the condition, it is best to enjoy life and see the world at a different perspective. After all, life isn't all about the physical aspect alone.

Losing hair can be an upsetting experience for any individual. It many cases hair loss is simply unavoidable and is certainly an excepted fact of life that most individuals have to deal with. This does not exclude women either as they are nearly just as susceptible to hair loss as men. The many causes of hair loss are quite varied, ranging from loss due to hormonal problems to hair loss attributed to certain diseases, like lupus or diabetes, to that which is associated with common male-pattern baldness. Improper hair care can also lead to hair loss, specifically the constant restraining and pulling of the hair resulting from styling the hair in pigtails or cornrows. However, the predominant type of hair loss is associated with male-pattern baldness and the lesser known female-pattern baldness.

Male-pattern baldness is usually a precipitate of heredity. The inheritance of this trait causes many men to begin losing their hair at an early age with a receding hairline forming and developing into baldness on top of the head with its progression. Somewhat similar to this, female-pattern baldness results in the thinning of hair over the entirety of the scalp. Fortunately for individuals suffering from this common baldness there are medications, which can be applied to the scalp to slow or stop the rate of hair loss. Some products may even help to regenerate cells and cause the hair to grow again.

For those individuals who have seemingly tried all brands of hair regeneration medications, there are other solutions. A low risk alternative to using medications to help with hair loss is happinesslifetime.com hair transplantation. During a happinesslifetime.com hair transplant, hair follicles from parts of the body are, as is suggested, relocated to the bald areas of the scalp. Following this procedure the individual will be left with a natural looking hairline.

Last Wednesday evening I got back to my place after a grueling nine-mile bike ride through the foothills. Tired and lathered in sweat, I jumped in the shower for a much needed scrub. This was quite relaxing considering my eyes were still burning from the sweat and my skin and hair were uncomfortably littered with salt crystals. Routinely, I reached for my "Costco special" shampoo, glopped a heap of the viscous ooze into my hands and proceeded to assail my hair with it until my scalp was numb. As I toweled up and began to dry my hair I suddenly came to a conclusion: My hair looks like hell and feels even worse after every time I wash it. As a man who exercises all too much and correspondingly washes his hair a lot, I realized that my run-of-the-mill shampoo just wasn't cutting the mustard.

As a conservative estimate, I would say that I have A LOT bad hair days, so I decided it was time to give my hair a new game plan. Of course I had no idea what this game plan was, so I turned to the internet for some research. After sifting through numerous articles, most of which were disguised advertisements, I was blessed with some mana from heaven: a summary on organic hair products on a website called Dressy Tresses. Yeah, so it may have been targeted towards women, but hair is hair, am I right? This article gave me some great ideas on how I could solve some if not all of my hair dilemmas.

The first question that I wanted to answer was, "Why does regular shampoo leave my hair coarse and unmanageable?" It turns out that most household synthetic shampoos and conditioners contain several ingredients that are harmful to your hair: sodium lauryl sulfate and phthalates (don't worry, I can't pronounce it either). These ingredients are commonly used because they greatly add to the cleaning, foaming, and emulsifying effects of the shampoo.

Though organic shampoos do not contain anywhere near the amount of harmful ingredients, they too should be used in moderation because they have the potential of being an allergen or other catalyst that could increase your body's sensitivity to the environment. As current trends follows, more and more people are deciding against synthetics and are siding with the good ol' Mother Nature. Organic shampoos are no miracle cure for coarse hair but they can make a delightful difference in the overall health of your hair. This means stronger, better looking hair, less dandruff, and superior styling.

Before going out and buying organic shampoo, here's something to note. There are two types of what the USDA considers natural happinesslifetime.com hair care products. One will be labeled with "made with natural ingredients" and the other with "organic." The only difference between the two is that the former contains only 70% natural ingredients while the "organic" product contains at least 95%. Also, be sure to check the back of the product for its hydrosol content. Hydrosol is merely water that has been steeped in flowers and herbs but it's used by manufacturers to artificially boost a product's natural percentage rating. Though hydrosol is a natural ingredient, it is inert and has no redeeming effects on hair.

Admittedly, creating a happinesslifetime.com hair care product that is 95% organic is very difficult, so at present there are only a handful of companies who have achieved the USDA organic certification. These companies are:

o Dr Bronner's Magic Soaps

o Sensibility Soaps

o Aubrey Organics

o Terressentials (certification pending)

Organic hair products not needed by everyone, but if you brandish long hair, or your hair is in as desperate need as mine, it may be worth your while!

Women tend to think that men have it so easy when it comes to choosing a hairstyle. Should it be a low-number clipper cut, or maybe a short-back and sides? However, it would probably come as a big surprise to learn just how complex men's hairstyles have become over the past few decades.

In historical times, men often sported quite luxurious hairstyles - think of the wigs in the French Courts in the 1700s. However, the Victorian era signalled the start of a more subdued time, with women's styles being natural and tame, whilst men kept their hair very short, lathered in macasser oil, and sported a beard, sideburns or a moustache. As we progressed into the 1920's, hair for men was very simple - short and neat, and an outrageous style statement for men at this time probably constituted something as simple as a side parting.

This continued until after the Second World War, after which time things seemed to relax and men began to wear their hair long or slicked back, which was considered to be very 'Hollywood' for men. However the 1950's was considered to be one of the turning points for men's' hairstyles, as Elvis and James Dean hit the headlines with their enviable quiffs, and long and heavy sideburns. As a consequence men everywhere started to take more time over their appearance.

The 1970's proved a great decade for men's hair - personal expression was the key to a great hairstyle. Groovy looks were big this era, and both men and women embraced more natural styles with longer locks and shaggy tresses. Think the Beatles, the Stones and David Cassidy - all had great shaggy styles. There is evidence that many of the 1970's hairstyles are on trend today, because they are classically appealing.

As we sweep through to the eighties, music and film idols still influenced the hairstyles of the decade. At the start of the eighties there were two schools of influence in men's hairdressing, both of which were influenced by music. There was the cult of the Mods, where men were very minimalist in their choice of styles; shaved heads perfectly accompanying sharp suits in monochrome colours. At the other extreme there were the New Romantics with their more flamboyant styling, long fringes and bold highlights.

This shift saw men starting to 'care' for their hair and although sleeking, sculpturing and moulding products had been used throughout the decades to achieve the most difficult of looks, men were now targeted with their very own hair care regimes. Gone were the days when men pinched their girlfriend's shampoo; the men now had their own products. With new all-male packaging of men's toiletries, it was now even more normal for bathrooms to be sporting a range of his products as well as hers.

But as we creep into the 21st century, a whole new man has arrived: a man that possesses hair boots.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10052&catalogId=11051&categoryId=4665 straighteners and is proud to admit it; a man that teases, sprays, blow-dries and straightens his hair to achieve 'that' look and style.

With men's styles looking even more complicated than they do today - some layers short, some longer, sweeping fringes or hairbands, even our male counterparts require a few tools of the trade to achieve their desired look.

Why Natural?

What would you think if upon driving up to your neighborhood gas station you saw individuals running gasoline through their hair and buying miniature take home bottles to use for hand and foot moisturization? Imagine if upon visiting a chemical plant you witnessed the employees jump into a huge Jacuzzi whose froth and bubbles were generated by leftovers from whatever they had manufactured that day. Regardless of how much or how little you know about natural personal care products, you would probably be reluctant to believe the hype about such products regardless of how it was presented to you.

Unfortunately, many such ingredients are being sneaked into your shampoo, lipstick and lotion. To add insult to injury, these synthetic culprits are being marketed to you in bottles that say “all natural,” “botanical” and “organic.” Unless you take the time to read and research the ingredients contained in your personal care products, you may unwittingly be feeding the largest, permeable organ on your body minute but regular doses of carcinogenic and damaging meals.

Potentially harmful chemical agents that are frequently added to conventional cleansers and emulsions (e.g. lotions and creams) include; lauryl and laureth sulfates (surfactant and lathering agents that are drying to the skin and hair), and various parabens and PEG’s (preservatives which are petroleum derivatives and potential carcinogens). Glycerin, which is a beneficial by-product of the soap making process is often removed from bar soap, then sold separately for more profit, thus further enhancing the drying effects of the chemical agents in the soap. Conditioners are usually a chemical soup with a small percentage of nourishing ingredients whose effects are rendered useless by the damage done by the synthetics, and leave a residue that causes product build up, necessitating the switch to a different product every few months. The most effective healthy conditioning is offered by homemade hot oil and or pre-wash treatments that can be left in or shampooed out. One fragrance oil can contain as many as 200 individual synthetic components! Essential oils are the only ingredient suitable for scenting a product that is made to be used on human or animal skin. Safe preservatives are neem oil, and rosemary and grapeseed extracts.

The beauty industry is a multi-billion dollar industry in which the idea of using only pure and natural ingredients to nourish the hair and skin is slowly but surely gaining momentum. There are, however, many imposters and half-hearted attempts that are taking advantage of the all natural buzz. That is why the following information is designed to help those of you looking to make the transition navigate the waters regardless of what stage you are at in your quest for natural beauty.

Bar and liquid Soaps and Shampoos

Truly natural soap is made using fats and or oils, and a strong base such as sodium or potassium hydroxide. The end product is soap and water, with the lye being actually used up in the process. When this process happens at room temperature, the resulting product is called cold-process soap. Some natural soaps can also be made with heat. The natural glycerin is left in the soap, and many natural soapers add botanical clays, herbs and essential oils to further enhance the quality of the soap. This results in a superior bar of soap that is both cleansing and nourishing to the skin. Natural liquid soaps can be used interchangeably for both the skin and hair. We recommend liquid castile soap for both, and stick to brands that are free of preservatives and dyes. Some soapers do have special botanical blends that are especially good for the hair.

Conditioners and Hair Treatments

Most natural conditioners work best before you wash your hair. They can vary from a hot oil treatment of blended base and essential oils, a mixture of clay and powdered herbs to a fresh food mask that can include ingredients found in your refrigerator like yogurt, lemon, avocado and olive oil. The hair shaft and scalp are porous and if allowed to sit long enough, (heat opens the pores thus allowing the treatment to be absorbed faster), the nutritious elements of the treatment remain even after you shampoo. This way you gain all the advantages of the conditioning without worrying about product build up. Aloe Vera Gel is an excellent hair mouse/ gel, that works on everything from the straightest of hair to dreadlocks. It gives hold without leaving the hair hard, and can also give body, while enhancing both straight and curly styles. Be sure to use only the kind that you can drink, as this contains no oils and preservatives, (other than citric acid).

Toners, Exfoliators and Skin Treatments

Look for toners that are alcohol fee. Floral waters and hydrosols (by-products from the manufacture of essential oils) are the most gentle and nourishing for the skin. Witch hazel is great for oily skin, lavender for dry skin, rose for happinesslifetime.com aging skin and chamomile for sensitive. Oil based sugar and salt scrubs are excellent Exfoliators and moisturizers for the body. Use apricot kernel meal and or fresh pureed papaya or pineapple to exfoliate the face (or masks that contain these enzymes as an alternative to alpha-hydroxy acids). There are numerous clays on the market that can be mixed to suit your skin type, or you can just buy pre-mixed clay facials. Clay is excellent for extracting toxins from the skin and cleansing the pores.

Body Moisturizers

Most lotions and creams are emulsions of water and oil components. Any emulsion requires a preservative to prevent or kill off the accumulation of potentially harmful bacteria at the interface of the oil and water molecule. A high quality natural emulsion will contain natural cold pressed and unrefined oils or butters, and the water component will also comprise of other nutritious ingredients such as aloe juice or gel, hydrosols, floral and herbal waters to name a few. It will also use only natural and safe preservatives e.g. grapeseed extract, therefore the shelf life of such a product may be 3 to 6 months. However the advantage of the product is its freshness, and the assurance that the production happens in small batches and your cream can be customized.

Ingredients should be easy to read and understand. Pay heed to scientific or botanical names following the common name for extracts and essential oils, so that you can recognize them easily in the future. The best time to apply a moisturizer is immediately after a warm bath or shower. At this point, the pores are still enlarged and the oils will be absorbed quicker by the skin. Another solution is to give your skin a hot oil treatment. Melt 2 tablespoons (3 or 4 if there is a little more of you to love or if you have a partner with whom to share this special treat) of your favorite unrefined butter(s) (shea, mango or cocoa) in a double boiler. Add 4-8 drops, depending on the strength desired, of essential oils if you wish. Do not overheat, as heat may destroy some of the benefits of the oils. Massage oils onto entire body. The oils absorb quickly, leaving your skin feeling soft and supple.

Perfumes

The ancient art and science of perfumery is experiencing a revival. After decades of using mass produced, overpriced, synthetic fragrances, many holistic consumers are returning to the idea of wearing natural personalized fragrances. Be sure that your perfume is scented only with essential oils or natural resins (e.g. Vanilla Oleoresin). Usually natural perfumes are available as spritzers, roll on’s, or wax cones, flooded with fragrance, that you rub onto the skin.

Make up

Natural makeup is now available that does not contain talc, dyes or chemicals. Minerals from the earth are used for color, while natural oils and botanicals are used for texture. The end product is flattering, and hypoallergenic.
