I am understanding towards black hair types. They can be difficult to handle at the best of times and many women with black hair resolve issues by using chemical treatments, heat applications and sometimes extensions when they want to boost the length or speed of which their hair grows. Really and truly though, we should always look back to the basics in hair care health and make sure we are fulfilling the needs of our hair - it can take time if hair is already damaged, but it is the only way forward if you want to grow your black hair long.
As is the case with the majority of black hair, it can be very sensitive, dry and breaks easily. It is this breakage of the hair that stops the growth from really showing through. Of course our hair is growing all the time - but if it suffers a lot from breakage then we never will see the hair exceed a certain length - at least not in a healthy condition.
If your hair is in a bad way, the most important thing you will need is some patience. Nobody said it would be easy or quick to get badly damaged hair back in tip top condition. So patience is needed and continuity - the following tips I have for you to make black hair grow will need to be followed almost religiously. It would do you no favors just to pick up on good habits as and when you feel - stick with them if you want to see longer hair and longer lasting results.
Onto the good stuff - here are my tips to giving you the best chance at making black hair grow:
Nutrition. It is just as important to take care for hair from within - so make sure you are putting the right things into your body. The hair will have a better chance of growing beautifully if it gets plenty of vitamins and minerals, not to forget plenty of hydration from drinking water. If you don't think you are getting a good dose of vitamins then it would be perfectly okay to take a multivitamin supplement.
Stylist. Having the help and guidance from a professional can really help when you are trying to grow black hair. Make sure you go to the salon regularly and make sure you have a stylist who knows how to treat black hair and understands your goals.
Wide-Toothed Comb. Buy one, use one and never look back. All other brushes and combs will snap, pull and break sensitive black hair so you can forget about growth. A wide-toothed comb is an essential part of your hair kit.
Satin Wrap or a Satin Pillow. It is your choice - but choosing one of these to sleep with will take care for your hair for a whole third of your day when you are sleeping. Tossing and turning in the night and allowing your hair to rub on a normal pillow can lead to breakage. Satin is a protector for black hair and will be your best friend.
Head Massage. You can either do this yourself or get a friend/partner to do it for you. Every night after showering or before bedtime, massage the scalp with the fingers to increase the blood flow to the area which will in turn prompt the scalp to release more of the hair's natural oils. The natural oils will make the hair stronger and less prone to damage.
