There are times when simple hair care is surprisingly not enough. Hair has got to be healthy in order to achieve its full potential. Since there are a lot of misconceptions out there on how to properly and correctly care for your hair, to get and keep it healthy I will clear up a couple of erroneous beliefs that some people actually think work.
When people say that your split ends can be fixed by a strong conditioner, they are wrong. Obviously, the term itself says it all. The ends have split and the only way to fix it is by getting a good trim, not by conditioning it as much as you can.
It's all so common to hear people say that brushing your hair a hundred times will make it shiny as Snow White's but I'm sorry to say that it doesn't work that way either all it does is cause breakage so you're definitely wasting your time just brushing. Only brush enough to get the tangles out and you're good to go, this minor misunderstanding might have been spread by shampoo and conditioner manufacturers.
You shouldn't use a lot of shampoo and conditioner; as a matter of fact all you need is a small dollop, about the size of a dime. If you use a lot more than necessary, you are just causing your hair and scalp to dry when it doesn't have to be.
This last tip I found out years ago. You shouldn't just wash your hair every 2 to 3 days. It actually depends on your specific hair type. Some may need to wash every other day while others, just once a week. Hope this enlightens you and erases a few of the misconceptions you have as they did mine.
