What would you normally see in a man's closet? A pair of jeans, rubber shoes, sneakers, hair wax, deodorant, and a hair straightener. Yes, you read it correctly, a hair straightener! Commonly used by the ladies and now, guys are also buying it.

Men who use hair straighteners are called Metrosexuals. These are heterosexual men who are very particular about how they look and their everyday appearance. They display a variety of attributes of a typical lifestyle of a gay man - fashion, lives in the city, gym goer, disposable income and non-stop shopping.

The success of the reality show "Queer As Folks" made more and more men conscious with the way they look. From personal hygiene to the right and fashionable clothes, and from styling the mustache and beard to the right wax to use for the hair.

Men today are now going over beyond the stereotypical way of living. They spend money on branded clothes, perfumes, cosmetic products, and even pricey hair products such as hair straighteners. Men with curly hair would normally go to a barbershop and have it cut off really short or perhaps have it shaved all the way. Why? Because they find it very hard to manage especially when its too long and hair products don't do the job anymore.

Hair straighteners work for men just as they work for women. Men with messy curly hair often see it as a curse not to get the latest and trendy hairstyles. Men stuck in an uncontrollable wavy or bushy hair often result to low self-esteem and frustration because no girls would want to date them. Everyone needs diversity and change, a new look that would alter the kind of lifestyle we live in.

You may find this gay-ish or too girly but believe it or not, there is an increasing number of men using hair straighteners including Hollywood actors and personalities likes David Beckham, Tom Cruise and Will Smith. These celebrities are not ashame for being branded as "metrosexuals" because they look good, they manage to look young and healthy even at their late 40's. Because of this, the growth in men's hairstyling alerted Cosmetics and Hair product companies to develop hair straighteners tailored especially for the men.

Although there are still some areas where men using hair straighteners are subjected to mockery and ridicule, more and more straight guys are actually buying these products to achieve the look they want. Men who are shy to go to salons to have their hair fixed would rather shop and do a do-it-your-own method where in they discover products such as hair straighteners to fix and style their hair the way they've always wanted it to be.

Men's straightening flat iron is smaller and compact with thin plates enabling to get close to the root of the hair strands without harming the delicate scalp. It works perfectly with guys who have fringe which gives many more hair styles for men.

Still, whether you are a man or a woman, constant hair care and guidelines should be practiced. Frequent use of such hair products will lead to hair damage and breakage. Remember to pamper your hair once in a while.

The modern day men now putting in more stuff in their drawer and shower area. So ladies, the next time you shop for vanity, remember to buy extra for your partners.

A hair dryer is a very important part of your hair styling and hair care routine. You will use this tool nearly every single day and there are many important factors to consider before purchasing one. If you're a hair stylist, there are even more things to be aware of because you will use this tool on almost every client. If you're feeling a little overwhelmed with all the options available, just remember to consider the following: Heating element, settings, wattage, weight, attachments and warranty. There are multiple styles in each category but the best one for you depends on your needs.

The single most important factor to consider is the heating element. It's no secret that heat can be dangerous and damaging when applied to hair day after day. Even if you use a thermal protecting product, it's still important to use a high quality hair dryer to prevent any damage. Not all hair dryers dry hair in the same way and knowing the difference can really save your hair.

The least expensive hair dryers tent to use a metal or plastic heating element and this leads to a very intense, very uneven heat. It essentially "cooks" the hair by boiling the water out of it. This is the most dangerous way to dry your hair and should be avoided whenever possible. Higher standard dryers are typically made with a ceramic drying element; similar to what is used in space heaters or other home heating technology. Ceramic produces a far-infared head that enters the core of the strand of hair and dries it from the inside out.

You may have seen a hair drying boasting that it is an "ionic dryer." On a cheap hair dryer (that's not ionic), the heat will diffuse positive ions, and because hair cuticles are naturally neutral, this causes them to open and result in frizzy and poofy hair. A high quality ionic dryer will produce negative ions which "flatten" the neutral cuticle and trap moisture in so the hair stay sleek and shiny. This also works a lot faster because it breaks down each water molecule with a negative charge.

Ceramic heating elements can accomplish these negatives ions to an extent, but it's much more effective to combine it with another material, like tourmaline. It reportedly dries and styles hair up to 70 percent faster than tools made with other materials. Overall, the very best hair dryer will be ionic and made from a ceramic and tourmaline blend.

Another important factor to consider is the wattage on your hair dryer. The exact wattage varies from dryer to dryer but it should always be greater than 1300 watts, unless it is a travel dryer. The average is probably around 1750 watts and some stylists recommend up to 1900 to 2000 watts for long and thick hair.

Just like in straightening irons, the settings on a hair dryer can be very beneficial. Many come with a "high" or "low" option but it is also important to look for a "hot" or "cool" setting. Because heat is so potentially damaging to hair, it's best to use the lowest and coolest settings whenever possible. It's best to have a dryer that provides several settings to choose from.

If you only use a hair dryer for personal use, the weight may not be very important. But if you use a dryer day after day on client after client, you will certainly notice the difference a couple of ounces can make. The lightest hair dryers available are 12 oz to 13 oz. Because these are usually higher end and more expensive, consider whether you really need your dryer to be this light.

A recent addition to hair dryers are all of the attachment options. A person with thick, curly hair can avoid and hint of frizz with a diffuser. This attachment diffuses hair between the ringlets to dry it faster, but more gently. And using a nozzle or air stream tool is great for those who dry their hair with a brush. You can comb out sections of your hair and easily focus the stream of air right on that part for quick and efficient drying. Also, these nozzle tools allow you to focus the air on the roots or on the underside of your hair: two places that are often forgotten.

The last important factor when buying hair dryer is the warranty. Just like everything else, the warranty sometimes comes from the manufacturer and sometimes from the retailer. The more expensive brands tend to have the better return, refund and repair options available so be sure to check it out before you invest in a dryer.

GHD or Good Hair Day is a professional hair styling and hair product unit that brought about a great craze all across Europe with its ceramic straighteners. Though its entire product line is inspiring and its usage of Dead Sea Mud and essential oils (despite high product cost) is praiseworthy, what got our imminent attention were the hair straighteners.

The reason is quite simple actually. We got holes in our pockets going to the expensive salons trying a new hair look and we could never think of getting a dozen different experiments done on us a month unless wee were a Paris Hilton. But then we are people with hearts and wishes.

This is why the GHD hair straighteners have been our vehicles of wish fulfillment. Now with the GHD straighteners, we can look to give our hair the look we desire. It can be straight or curly or wavy or flippy or any other thing. The hair run extremely smoothly all through the surface and does not gather any frizz. There is no chance of intertwined hair along the length.

You can choose your hair pattern and change it any number of times a day. Get a disco look in the night and come back to the sober self in the afternoon. This makes the GHD hair straighteners a much coveted product even for the celebrities. The Zellweger's swear by it and so do the Aniston's.

Ceramic straighteners brought forth by GHD are a state-of-art material providing optimum temperature throughout your styling. This creates very shiny hair which is brilliantly textured as well.

For those with undesirable and unwanted hair, or those who just want to get rid of excess hair at certain regions of the body, they can find a solution with various permanent hair removal products and tips. Maybe it's because they don't want to shave constantly or are fed up with itchy and annoying hair. Permanent hair removal is their best bet to rid that annoyance. However, truly permanently removing hair can be elusive or even impossible to attain. So what exactly are the best ways to remove unwanted hair all over the body?

Laser Hair Removal

Over the past 15 years or so, laser hair removal has become a very popular method of getting rid of problem hair. It's not a magic bullet though since it does require a couple of sessions to remove hair from parts of the body. The number and duration of sessions can also depend on many factors such as hair coloration, hair density and hair thickness.

Side effects to laser hair therapy also exists. They often range from minor discomfort like inflammation of the skin and rashes forming to more severe effects with severe burning and scarring on the top skin layers. Side effects d do differ for each person. So it's best to first choose your hair removal clinic wisely and carefully. Consult the doctor and hair specialist if you're experiencing severe side effects after the first several treatment sessions. Also consider the total costs involved for these treatments and visits.

Intense Pulse Light treatments

Intense Pulsed Light treatments or IPL are similar to laser in getting rid of unwanted hair, although it is cheaper and requires less sessions to the doctor's and hair care specialist's visits. Therefore IPL has become quite popular recently. Intense pulsed light is less destructive to skin surrounding the hair, so side effects are less severe. But IPL treatment only remains effective for permanent hair removal for about a year. Laser hair removal treatments would be a better alternative in many cases for most people.

There are also a variety of prescribed and over-the-counter hair permanent removal products for removing excess hair throughout the body. There are popular creams and lotions available on the happinesslifetime.com skin care market. Go to your local happinesslifetime.com skin care store or happinesslifetime.com skin care boutique and browse around for options on these products. Check with your hair specialist to see what they recommended. Some will work immediately for results while some will not. Not all products are suitable for everyone, despite them being clinically tested in trials. In most cases, you will also be using additional products with your treatments. Overall, the best method for permanent hair removal depends on the individual and what they each respond best.

Dry, damaged hair is one of my pet peeves as a hair stylist. More often than not is simply due to my client not understanding what causes the condition and that total rectification means that the damaged hair must be grown out and cut off.

You cannot restore you damaged hair. Despite what products say, you can only help its appearance but this should just be done while you are in the process of growing the damaged hair out. I speak from personal experience as well as from experiences with my clients.

Before you can grow your hair out into a healthy state, you need to understand what causes damage in the first place. If you do not, you will just damage the new hair before you can get rid of the already damaged hair.

The number one ways that hair is seriously damaged is through chemical processing. I am not saying that you cannot have highlights, colors, straighteners, or perms applied to your hair. If you do choose to alter you hair chemically, it is best to stick with only one process. Of these processes, the best to choose are the ones that can have future chemicals applied to new hair growth only.

Colors and highlights are best for this. If you are currently perming your hair to help with control, you will probably find that highlights give you quite a bit of control over your hair.

With color and highlights, you will be able to have your stylist apply future chemical treatments to the new growth only. This is also true of straightening processes, but the chemicals involved in straightening are generally harsher overall.

This determination is argued by some because highlighting is essentially a bleaching process, which can be very damaging. However, highlights do not affect every hair on your head, leaving a vast amount of healthy, unprocessed hair. Straightening affects every hair with the chemicals used.

What you must understand about chemical processes and damage is that repeatedly putting chemicals on the same part of your hair creates a vicious cycle of chronic damage. This is compounded by the various heated tools that you use to style your hair, harsh shampoos and styling products, and a multitude of environmental factors.

Now that you understand the importance very discriminating about chemical processes, you need to know some of the ways you can protect your hair on a regular basis. Following is a variety of ways that you can help prevent further damage to your hair, not all of then will apply to you, so use as many as you can.

Do not blow dry your hair any more than absolutely necessary. If you can let it air dry completely, do it. If you do have to blow dry, use a thermal protector prior to blow drying. Use the coolest setting possible to achieve your style.

Use pH balanced shampoos and conditioners that are very moisturizing; for conditioners, also look for one with UV protection.

Use a pH balanced leave in conditioner, preferably with UV protection.

Eat foods that are rich in protein and omega 3 fatty acids (the good fat), choose organically grown and raised products, and eat less processed food.

Using a natural boar hair brush, brush your hair thoroughly every evening, brushing the scalp well while you do this. Brushing like this distributes the natural oils along the hair and massages the scalp.

If your hair is wet (or damp), only use a wide toothed comb on it. Brushes and combs with thin, narrow teeth cause serious breakage, especially in damaged hair.

Now that you know the things you have to do in order to truly have healthier hair once you have the damaged hair grown out, you can use the following tips to attempt to camouflage the current damaged hair. I sat attempt because extremely damaged hair cannot be camouflaged; it will look damaged no matter what you try.

Take a tiny amount of your pH balanced moisturizing conditioner in the palm of your hand, run water into your cupped hand and vigorously rub the conditioner, mixing it with the water. Keeping this thoroughly wet, scrunch it onto the ends of very wet hair. Then scrunch a spray styling product designed to smooth curls into the hair. Allow to air dry.

Less effective, but still useful are the glossers which are actually a very light oil sprayed through an extremely fine mist. These should be applied to dry hair as a general rule. Do not believe marketing ploys that claim that these products restore or repair your hair. All they do is camouflage the damage.

For any woman who has had a child, pregnancy can be a great experience excluding of course the nauseating pain that comes with child birth, but then that is an aside considering they have just brought a brand new life into the world. The problem is the pain is not the only side effect of a pregnancy, there is some degree of hair loss involved which is more of a postnatal effect as is well known by many mothers. Somewhere around 50% of women will experience this hair loss at some point in time after child birth. This usually happens within a one to five months period after child birth whereby in or around the third month is where in most cases the effect is really felt. This of course is a very distasteful situation and extremely unnerving especially since this affects their looks and their mood. What is even worst is when the person is a new or even worst yet a young mother which increases their rate for postnatal depression and lowering their self esteem.

What is the cause?

Hormones! Just that, hormones, the increase and/or loss of hair when it comes to pregnant women and new mothers is usually due to the flux in the level of female hormones, which basically is known as estrogen. Within the term of pregnancy most women would experience an increase in their scalp hair, which is because at this time there is a surplus of estrogen being pumped around the body. This causes their metabolisms to be sped up and nutrients spread to everywhere in the body including the scalp causing the increase in scalp hair.

After child birth however is the complete opposite whereby there is a decrease in estrogen in the body to return the body to its normal levels that it was before the pregnancy therefore resulting in what we deem, hair loss. Basically since the extra nutrients in the scalp can not be provided by the hormones anymore there is nothing to support the increase in hair therefore the hair gained falls out. There are also other causes that add to pack when it relates to this type of hair loss like discontinuing the use of contraceptives, miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion and hormonal imbalance resulting from various reasons.

Most women fortunately do not have to worry considering this effect is only temporary and most come out of this problem without even taking any treatment for it since the body does the work for itself. There is however some cases whereby the hair loss continues after the predetermined period and becomes something to worry about especially if the person was already afflicted with very thin hair in the first place. No real need to worry though since there are treatment options available to help out in form of hair care and hair nutrition which are the major factors in promoting healthy hair after child birth.

Hair Care

Proper hair care has been found to be in this case a major helper in the restoration of the hair to a thicker and lusher growth. Some of these methods however should be avoided during this time though because they put too much stress on the scalp such as pigtails, cornrows, hair weaves and braids. Using tight hair rollers is also not recommended. The application of essential oils is also helpful as they promote healthy hair growth which may include lavender, neroli, patchouli and sandalwood. Shampoos and conditioners containing biotin and silica are also advisable options available. What should also be noted is that wet hair should not be rubbed hard since the hair is usually brittle at this time.

Nutrition

As with all others symptoms the body may experience a healthy diet is always the way to go and especially so for hair loss after pregnancy. Foods like fruit and vegetables are usually the most ideal for the promotion of healthy hair and growth. Also along with you doctor advice which he/she can advise you to a prescription of nutritional supplements which can include Vitamin B, Vitamin, C, Vitamin E and zinc which an excellent source of nutrients for the hair.
