You might think that straightening your hair is a pretty simple way of styling but many people don't take the time to make the most of straightening their hair. If you want the style to last and look great there are many things you can do.

To achieve the best results you should follow these styling tips that will not only help to effectively straightening your hair, but will also ensure it lasts longer and keeps your hair healthy.

Spray on heat protection

As hair straighteners can go up to temperatures of over 180 degrees it's important that you remember to protect your hair against this level of heat. Lightly spray on some heat protection spray after washing your hair when it is damp and run through the hair using your fingers.

Split hair into sections

One you have washed and dried your hair you should then split it into manageable sections. Start by clipping up the top half of your hair then divide the lower part of your hair into approximately 2in sections. You should repeat this process on the top half of your head once you have straightened the bottom half.

Straighten

Taking each section at a time, make sure you brush through to ensure your hair is tangle free, but don't over brush because this will create static. Start by placing the straighteners at the root, holding your hair with one hand and the other hand on the hair straighteners. Pull down in a smooth gliding motion, but make sure you don't jerk your hand otherwise it will leave lines on your hair that can be difficult to straighten out. Do this on every section until your entire head has been straightened.

Check with mirror

Your hair may look fine from the front but you should also check the back to make sure it has been properly straightened. You could either ask someone to have a look or use a handheld mirror to reflect into a larger one.

Apply shine gloss

Once you're happy with the results, you may want to apply shine gloss to create a smooth and shiny finish. This tends to work best with people who have thick hair as it also helps to calm down the hair, however, if you have fine or thin hair you may find some shine gloss products are too heavy.
