In our day and age, medical science in its pursuit to identify and classify everything is making cures more and more specific. Every symptom has a particular pill assigned to it, every illness a treatment separate and individual to the other grievances the person feels. This line of thinking is moving further and further away from how conditions were dealt with in the past. Ayurvedic treatment for hair on the other hand does not follow this approach. The term "Ayurveda" combines the Sanskrit words ayur (life) and veda (science or knowledge).
Accordingly, Ayurveda means "the science of life." Because it looks at our life as a whole, it views health in the same manner. In Ayurvedic medicine, treatment for any ailment means the reestablishment of harmony and balance in ones life. So even in our hair care if we want to achieve positive results we must not only use ayurvedic hair products, we also need to integrate changes that will balance the body, spirit and the mind; this is why it is "holistic."
Ayurveda for hair will prompt us to make changes from the inside out as well as use ayurvedic hair oil. Healthy hair begins with our body so dietary changes have to be introduced. Green leafy vegetables, fruits, milk, fresh yogurt and coconut are excellent allies in ayurvedic hair care.
A scalp massage two or three times a week with ayurvedic hair oil will help stimulate and moisturize the scalp. Coat your hair with mildly warmed oil and gently massage into your scalp evenly with your fingertips. The scalp massage helps restore balance to your mind by relaxing and de-stressing you. Leave the oil on for at least one hour, and then wash your hair with mild shampoo. Ayurvedic hair products would normally carry a range of mild shampoos and conditioners I'd advise you to consider these products for consistency with our holistic system.
Lastly, practice relaxation techniques. Meditate and or seek out tranquil sights to help restore balance to your mind uplift your spirit. Relaxing or inspirational music can also be therapeutic. All of these direct us toward the natural process of rejuvenation and ayurvedic hair care.
